Welcome back to How to Protect Your Phone. In Part One we discussed […]
The two main components of your phone that you need to protect are its software and its hardware. When it comes to both of these elements there is only so much you can do to protect them. While a phone’s hardware is primarily your responsibility, there are still a lot of things you can do to protect your phone from hackers, viruses, and malware. Whether you have an iOS or an Android device, the physical protection of your phone will largely be the same for both devices. When it comes to your phone’s software, however, it will more often than not depend on the make and model.
Our phones are important to us, and rightly so. They contain so much information, such as useful data, precious photos, and valuable contacts to name a few. Here at PAIR Mobile, we know all too well the fear that hits you when you drop your phone on the ground as you hope and pray that the screen hasn’t smashed. Or the dread you feel when your phone simply won’t turn on no matter how many times you press the power button. When it comes to protecting your phone, it’s important to do everything you can to prevent any damage happening to it.
In Part One, we are going to discuss three ways in which you can protect your phone from common everyday damage:
Invest in a good quality phone case:
This is probably the most obvious measure you can take to protect your phone from physical damage. While there are many types of phone cases to choose from, not all of them will shield your phone sufficiently. Some of them are designed to simply enhance the appearance of your phone or for merely aesthetic purposes, while others are specifically designed to protect your phone’s hardware. If you’re serious about preventing physical damage to your device, then it’s best to opt for the latter.
The most popular universal protective phone case out there is, of course, Otterbox. There are many different types of Otterbox phone cases, but the best one for phone protection is probably the Defender Series. Features of this phone case include a triple-layer defence, screen protection, and port covers. This particular brand of phone case has a Certified Drop+ Protection which means that “your device is protected from the barrage of wear & tear you subject it to every day.” And Otterbox has cases for both Android and iOS phones!
Look after your phone’s battery:
Ensuring that your battery doesn’t overheat is the best way to protect it from damage. Unfortunately, batteries will wear down over time. That is unavoidable. But that doesn’t mean you can’t help maintain your battery’s longevity. There are some protective measures you can take to prevent unnecessary damage. For example, instead of charging your phone to 100% and then letting the battery drain completely before the next charge, recharge your battery in smaller intervals.
In addition, it’s important to keep your battery cool. Overusing your phone can cause its battery to overheat. Using your phone while charging can also heat up the battery. Of course, storing your phone in warm places can also have negative effects on its battery as well. So keep it nice and cool, but not to subzero levels or anything, as any extreme temperature can have negative impacts on a battery!
Need a battery fix today? You’re in luck! Here at PAIR, we are conducting free battery diagnostics for the whole month of June. This will show how many times your device has been charged, how likely it is that the battery is causing your phone to lag, etc. New battery replacements start from just €20!
Get a screen protector:
If you tend to drop your phone a lot, you’ve probably smashed your screen at least once. When it comes to touchscreens, it doesn’t take a significant distance after the phone falling for the screen to smash. A good way to protect your screen from breakage is to use a phone case with a raised lip. However, if you want extra protection from unwanted scratches or your phone case simply doesn’t have a raised lip, you might want to purchase a screen protector.
If you’re particularly clumsy, scratches are inevitable if your phone isn’t shielded properly. So a good quality screen protector is a wise investment if you want your phone to be completely scratch-free. A great option is the InvisibleShield by Zagg. It is designed to absorb and distribute the shock of an impact and it also preserves your screen from scratches. This screen protector comes with a one year warranty and is available at all PAIR locations.
There you have it! Three simple ways to protect your phone from physical damage. Stay tuned for Part Two when we discuss how to best protect your phone’s software.
