The two main components of your phone that you need to protect are […]
Now that spring is here, it’s a good time to declutter the house and give it a fresh new style. It’s hard to do that though when you’re up to your eyes in no longer used electronic devices. As phone companies keep developing ever better technology the desire is there to ditch our old phone and buy a fancy new one. Over time our house can start to resemble a phone graveyard. It’s time to say STOP! Gather up all those old phones, and other bits and bobs that go with them. We’re going to say ‘bye bye’. It’s time to sell your phone.
What should I do with them?
Sell – This is the best option for old iPhones or other smartphones that are relatively new and in good nick. Think back to how much you paid for that phone, yikes! Right, it’s time to get some money back in your pocket. It may not be of much use to you anymore but in the right hands it can be polished up and resold as a pre-loved item. You win!
Donate – If you’re feeling generous then donating might be the option for you. There are a number of charities around Ireland who have recognised the benefit of collecting old phones to turn into cash as a means of fundraising.
Recycle – If your old phone has really had it and you just want rid of it as quickly as possible, then you can, by all means, recycle it. Electronic equipment should never be discarded in your household waste as this simply goes to landfill where these electrical components will sit for decades. Do the responsible thing and bring it to a WEEE centre. There’s plenty all over the country, and certainly one near you.
Where do I go to Sell?
There are a number of options when it comes to selling your old phone. However, we do recommend looking into each one to ensure that you get the best deal. After all, it is your money.
Flip.ie is an Irish owned website, the sister site to Pair Mobile. With Flip, you know that you’re supporting Irish, that you have a point of call if there are any issues and that the money will reach your bank account within three days. What could be simpler?!
Adverts / DoneDeal – These two online marketplaces are a fantastic way to buy and sell all manner of things. However, there is a downside to the ease and simplicity of these sites too. Because anyone can place or respond to an ad, you don’t really know who you’re dealing with. The websites themselves have put a huge effort into ensuring that people act in a fair and lawful manner but caution is still needed. Though the vast majority of transactions will probably go off without a hitch, you do not want to be the person who shows up to sell a phone and gets their car stolen in the process- there are plenty of horror stories like this.
Exchange Shops – These shops are springing up around the country. For example, CeX is a UK based company with shops in countries across the globe. They offer the security of having a point of contact if there is an issue, but usually, they offer better value for vouchers redeemable in store. If you want to take the money and run the odds may not be quite as good.
What do I need to do?
To list your old phones for sale on Flip.ie all you need to do is select the make and model of your phone. Give an honest account of how much wear and tear your phone has had and then we’ll figure out what the current market price for that device is.
At Flip.ie you have the final say on how much you want to sell your phone for. If you want to try and get more for it than we have quoted you, that’s fine, we want you to get the best price possible. You don’t even need to mess about with uploading images we take care of all of that so you can sit back and plan what you’re going to spend your funds on!
The only other thing you need to do is prepare your phone for sale. You’ve spring cleaned the house, now it’s time to wipe your iPhone. It’s pretty straight forward and makes sure that all those dodgy selfies remain your secret forever!
Why not make this a project for yourself this week! See how much cash you have lying around at home in the form of old phones.
